Optimum molecular weight
ORTHOVISC® has a molecular weight of 1.80 x 10 6 combined with a high rheological viscosity. Granulomatous inflammations, which appear to be induced by their low solubility in very high molecular weight preparations, can almost be ruled out.
Optimum viscosity
ORTHOVISC® optimally maintains its viscosity under load. Other preparations, on the other hand, quickly lose their viscoelastic properties under load and start to have a liquid character. Orthovisc® excellently improves the viscoelasticity of synovial fluid. Lubricating and shock-absorbing properties are restored.
Safe and effective
Clinical studies show that treatment with ORTHOVISC® alleviates symptoms and functional impairment associated with osteoarthritis over a period of at least six months.
Indications of ORTHOVISC®
Knee joint
- Arthrosis of the knee joint (gonarthrosis), regardless of the degree of the disease.
- Post-traumatic or degenerative changes in the knee joint.
Hip joint
- Osteoarthritis of the hip joint (coxarthrosis), especially in advanced stages.
- Treatment of pain and limited mobility due to degenerative joint diseases in the hip joint.
Hock
- Arthrosis of the ankle joint (talocrural arthrosis).
- Reducing pain and improving functionality in patients with degenerative ankle changes.
Vertebral joints
- Arthrosis of the vertebral joints (facet joint arthrosis).
- Treatment of back and neck pain due to degenerative changes in the vertebral joints.
FDA study: Better WOMAC results with ORTHOVISC®
The clinical trial for the approval of ORTHOVISC®, which was reviewed by the FDA, provides good results regarding the safety and purity of the product. 369 patients were examined over a period of six months to evaluate the tolerability and effectiveness of ORTHOVISC®. Here are the key findings:
Improved and long-lasting effect
The WOMAC is a self-assessment questionnaire for patients and offered the best results in this study compared to other preparations.
Low side effect rate
Only 2.2% of patients reported mild reactions at the injection site. This is in contrast to a comparable product with a higher molecular weight, which has a side effect rate of 5.7%.
High degree of purity
MONOVISC® is characterized by a particularly high degree of purity. It is produced using a biotechnological fermentation process and contains a high-purity and sterile hyaluronic acid solution.
